Warhammer Scenarios
As an admitted avoider of all things PvP when it comes to MMOs, I am surprising myself with the amount of my PvP play in Warhammer. I think I made the first suggestion for trying out some PvP scenarios on our mains. But since that first run, my playing partner has been the one pushing the PvP because of all the XP you get while doing it. It makes leveling much less “grindy.” Overall, the PvP has been fun, as mention here.
My Sorceress does massive damage. Especially on maps that force the opposing team to group up. And I’m not even spec’ed for AoE damage.
My Sorceress is not my only character. I also have a Witch Elf. She was originally created so that I had something to play when my partner wasn’t on. She ended up serving a great second purpose as a scavenger, supplying our main characters with supplies for our crafting skills. As I was leveling her up, I wasn’t really doing any PvP with her. I think I had jumped into just two scenarios before this weekend with her; my PvP experience was run to the front, die, rinse and repeat.
I was on my Witch Elf this last Friday because Wolf was playing her Black Orc and doing some scenarios. I thought about the XP we were getting on our main characters and was considering queuing up for some scenarios myself. So I click the the queue button, select “Join All” and instantly a scenario pops. I played through it and didn’t do too great. But as soon as I popped out, I queue up again and instantly, another scenario pops. I hadn’t really given it much thought as of yet, but the Witching Night had just started and our server was one of few marked for transfers so that probably had much to do with the quick scenario queue.
Throughout the night I experimented on different ways to play my Witch Elf until I finally found a way that clicked. What ended up working was playing her much like a Team Fortress 2 Spy: splitting from my team, going to the back lines and picking out a soft target. Often it took the character I was attacking a second to realize what was happening and even longer for their team to notice too. That gave me time to apply all the prep attacks and then lay into them. Healers and ranged DPS were the preferred targets. And without their teammates’ help, they couldn’t kill me or heal themselves fast enough.
I played over a couple dozen scenarios over the weekend with almost no downtime the whole weekend. I even ended up with the most kills, death blows, solo kills and damage on one map. I started the weekend with renown rank 8 and finished with rank 15. I also gained over 2 ranks in XP. It was a mad blast and now I can’t wait to do more PvP.
