Geek Soft: Vegas Movie Studio HD 9
As seen from the previous posts, we’ve been churning out videos like crazy. The editing tool that lets us do this is Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD 9. At $44, I’ve found that it is the affordable AND intuitive alternative to:
- Windows Movie Maker, which is free but overly simple,
- inaccessible professional versions such as Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 ($799) or Sony’s own Vegas Pro 10 ($679),
- the almost-sorta comparable Adobe Premiere Elements ($99) which is excessively non-intuitive.
After using Windows Movie Maker, I purchased Adobe Premiere Elements looking for an editor which had more features. After consulting the in-program help, an extensive online search, and much hair pulling, I could not figure out how to add the most basic of effects. I then downloaded the free trial (learning!) of Vegas Movie Studio HD 9 and figured out how to put together a video without help. Besides drag-and-drop properties, it has a nice live preview window which I usually have going fullscreen on the second monitor.
If you’re looking for a comparatively cheap, easy-to-use video editor to make internet movies, I highly recommend this program. If you will be burning movies to DVDs or require additional features, there are also two more Sony programs up this software tree.
