Age of Conan Final Impressions: Part 3

SullenThere were group quests and particularly hard regular quests that were just too difficult if you were solo or played with a small group. If you waited until you leveled up about five or ten levels though, you could do the quests. Well, Funcom decided that the best way to stop gold farmers was to make all gray creatures and bosses hit just as hard as if they were at your level. This made going back and doing gray quests impossible. And some of the quests rewards were actually quite nice. All this did was reduce the amount of content for people who like to solo or small group.

Age of Conan Final Impressions: Part 2

ShayIn the Part 1, we discussed the good of Age of Conan (AoC). It was a short article. This one will discuss some of the bad of AoC. This article will be much longer. I played this game on a PvE server. PvP on a RPG doesn’t appeal to me. So I will mainly be discussing things as they pertain to PvE.

Let’s first discuss some of the things that were discussed pre-release that never made it. Some of these things were cut early in development, some we didn’t know were missing until after the game came out. One of the first big announced cuts was classes. The original count of at least 23 classes was cut to twelve. Classes were combined while others were just cut.  Buddy Keys were not available at launch and are still not available months later. Mounted combat was not implemented as early videos showed it to be. A pre-release video showed a mounted solider riding by a human mob at full speed and decapitating them. Since you only have a chance of fatalities when doing combos and you cannot do combos while mounted, you could not do as shown.

Age of Conan Final Impressions: Part 1

SolaceFrom when I first heard about Age of Conan (AoC), I really thought it had a lot of promise. As I started following it, I wasn’t truly sure what was going to separate it from all other MMORPGs. The mature element would surely draw some of the crowd that would otherwise ignore it. Whether it be the psychopath that enjoys the fatalities way too much or the pervert, like me, that likes looking at digital breasts. Many of the features that Funcom (the developer of AoC) said would be included were very intriguing. It all sounded quite grand on paper. Well, launch has come and gone, and with a couple of months of play under the belt, let’s review and see how Funcom did with Age of Conan.

A Girl (Boy) and His (New) Horse.

So, Seyon finally got his mount and is understandably ecstatic; running from zone to zone is not fun. Actually, Seyon is a “jumper,” which means he appears to be a four year old girl on a sugar high traveling through these aforementioned zones, myself in tow. I thought that being astride a horse would stop these semi-embarrassing excursions… but I was wrong. Oh, I was so wrong.

First Impressions: Age of Conan

Boobies, lots of boobies. That’s what we bought Conan for, right? Well, sort of. The majority of its buyers claim to have purchased the product for a true “M for mature” rating, and not just for the bare skin and blood either. They wanted a game that would transport and encompass them into the brutality, sensuality, and dark lore of the Robert E. Howard world. Did they get what they wanted? Not sure, but here is my small insight into this new MMORPG.

Ok, first off, before you even consider buying this game, you’d better have a nice computer with a newer graphics card. Even with a top of the line PC, graphical options such as anti-aliasing will drastically reduce frame rate. Running it at medium settings is fine, but here is a comparison between a midrange and an extreme PC. Latency is on the higher side, especially in the larger cities, but that is to be expected.

Speaking of graphics, in game visuals are nice but somehow lack the flair of other games. They get the job done, I suppose, but there are still plenty of glitches (rendering, clipping, textures, jitters) to work out. Sadly, armor in game is not what I envisioned and not even close to the concept art – my character is running around in paper bags and has been for many, many ugly levels.
