A Flawed Design
I enjoy playing Warhammer Online (WAR), even with the bugs, declining populations, defective mechanics… and I could go on. It has its faults which, by and large, I can forgive. The larger problem is that the game is built around a core idea that is broken from the start.
Now let me start by saying that I am, in general, not a fan of player versus player (PvP) in MMORPGs. Not only do I prefer the play style of player versus environment (PvE), I dislike the attitude of the hardcore PvPer. They tend to be more fickle, moving quickly onto the next Game of the Month; just compare World of Warcraft players to those doing the Age of Conan > Warhammer > Darkfall > Aion hops. Still, in WAR, PvP has been more tolerable than in most, especially in the scenarios which are fifteen minutes of PvP capped off with a scoreboard.
As I played more PvP (dubbed RvR in WAR), the more I saw how faulted it was in the game – it is designed in such a way that one side is always the underdog to the other. This is not seen as a flaw by Mythic: it is openly promoted that way.
Warhammer Online Stats
One nice thing about Warhammer Online, stats are not the be all and end all. But they do help some classes more than others. Understanding how they work will help you make decisions on your armor and weapons. While trying to find out that exact information, I came across the formulas used for stat calculation. I then started thinking about how these applied to my characters but was having a problem visualizing the numbers, so I plugged in the numbers and formulas into an excel spreadsheet and everything became clear.
Although originally made so I could have a stat sheet that I could print out, I felt this would be good to pass on. I have both a pdf for easy print out and an excel spreadsheet if you want to play around with the numbers yourself. I may add more information to the spreadsheet, and if I do, I will update here.
Image of the Week!
Image of the Week!
…Or at least a quarter of one. My video card decided to take a dump yet again, giving a rather twisted preview of my Choppa in Warhammer Online. Note the human face “mask” and the lack of a head in the avatar health bar. This image was actually screencapped at twice the resolution and striped in two rows. Click here to view the original.
Warhammer : Choppa Preview
As we devour over Warhammer Online patch 1.2 in all of its gooey goodness, I thought I would do a quick write up on the Choppas.
Mechanic
The Choppa mechanic is rage and rage is built over time. For every one second that you are in battle you gain five rage, to the maximum of 100 rage. There are three stages of rage; normal, furious and berserk. Normal (0-24 rage) has no bonuses or penalties. Furious (25-74 rage) has +25% bonus damage and no penalties. Berserk (75-100 rage) has +50% bonus damage but also has the penalty of armor and resistances reduced 50%.
All the Colors of the Rainbow, but Not
Squigs in Warhammer Online are summoned in a variety of colors, like a putrid, snot-nosed rainbow or chicken-flavored Skittles. For all of those die-hard Squig Herders out there, here is the color pallete* of your basic squig:
Bilious Green |
Blazing Orange |
Imperial Purple |
Liche Purple |
Pallid Flesh |
Scab Red |
Scaly Green |
Scorpion Green |
Vermin Brown |
light red |
* Named to the closest Citadel Colour paint.
